Seattle Superprotest

Soo people are taking to the streets to protest against capitalism and those evil corporations who are trying to take over the world. Respeck. Nobody thinks that the protestors were in the wrong? Those individuals who were attending the WTO conference were simply trying to do their jobs. If a bunch of people stood up in front of where i worked and refused to let me through, I would be pretty pissed off, and I would definately call the police. If they broke the windows of my store I would expect reembursment, and I would hope they were arrested for vandalism.

The po-nine definately did use excesive force to remove the protesters from downtown Seattle, but seriously, protest a little better next time. Don't break the law when you do it.

Next, I didn't see the anarchist message throughout the protest. Not once did I hear the protestors mention anti-government, simply anti capitalism. Whats up wit dat?

Your point about the lack of a specific anarchist message in the documentary is valid. It was mainly an anti-capitalism effort, not an anti-government one, but not all of the protesters were anarchists. So, some of them opposed the capitalist actions of the WTO, without opposing all government. And the anarchists who opposed the capitalist efforts of the WTO were doing so BECAUSE they oppose all government.

Also, the part about protesting without breaking the law — the anarchist part comes in because the protesters OPPOSED the laws. Why would they protest within the laws they disagree with?? That completely defeats the purpose.

People have the right to peaceful protest, it is written in the constitution. Yes, a group of protestors broke a window (and many protests throughout history have ended in mob violence) but that does not mean that the protest was a failure. I understand what you say about the delegates just trying to do their jobs, but I think it misses the point. People must be accountable for their jobs. It was the job of slave traders to sail to Africa and capture innocent people and bring them back to our country to be beaten and worked to death; what you're saying is that nobody should have protested because these people were "just doing their job." People are creatures of free will...nobody forced the delegates of NATO into their jobs. Their occupation is a choice, and if these people make a choice to take an action, then every person can make a choice to disagree and protest it.
